Dermaplaning DIY!

Dermaplaning DIY!

Alright guys, you know I'm obsessed with skincare, especially DIY! My new experiment is dermaplaning. You may be wondering what the heck dermaplaning is. In a nutshell, dermaplaning is shaving your face! Yes, I shaved my face. No, not with shaving cream and a razor!

Dermaplaning is a procedure typically done by an esthetician or licensed medical professional that simply exfoliates the outermost layer of the skin using a blade. This procedure also removes the vellus hair on the face (aka peach fuzz). Vellus hair is very fine and thin, in contrast to terminal hair, which is the thicker darker hair that grows on our head, legs, etc. The results include smoother and brighter appearing skin. The procedure has been around for decades, and its very safe. By removing the vellus hair and the outermost layer of the skin, any topical products you may be using are absored better by the skin, and makeup goes on smoother.

I did this twice, once using this "eyebrow shaper" razor which you can find here on Amazon. These an also be found at most drug stores, I typically get them from Target. I have used these for years to shave my upper lip hair. Yes, I have unwanted upper lip hair and if you don't, you can stop reading because you clearly don't need to dermaplane! The second time I used a fancy blade from my office, which is how its typically done in a professional setting. Honestly, I did not notice much of a difference between the two methods, and I had great results both ways.

Whichever method, the motions are the same. I simply ran the blade in linear motions all over my face (excluding my nose). I tried to avoid shaving the same area twice. I absolutely LOVED seeing the dead skin cells and hair that came off, and I made sure to collect it all in a little pile so that I could show my boyfriend ;)

Afterward, I applied my lactic acid peel, followed by a nourishing mask bye Yes To which can also be found on Amazon here. Then I applied a toner and lots of moisturizing cream. I noticed results immediately! My skin felt so smooth. My hair did NOT grow back thicker, despite the common misconception. My skin did look brighter. My makeup did look better! It took about 3 weeks for me to notice regrowth of facial hair.

If you are doing acid peels, dermaplaning can help to achieve maximum results. If you have unwanted facial hair (e.g. upper lip hair, sideburns), I definitely recommend giving it a try. Comment below any questions or thoughts! Have you ever shaved your face??
