At Home Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion is a skin resurfacing procedure typically done in a medical office or spa. It’s commonly used to reduce the appearance of acne scarring, skin discoloration, fine lines and wrinkles, and to reduce blackheads and enlarged pores. An instrument is used to essentially “sand the skin”, gently removing the outer layer.

The procedure can be costly, and several treatments spaced apart are often needed. Being the avid beauty and skin DIY-er that I am, I have been experimenting with “at home” microdermabrasion. And as usual, here is my disclaimer...

Microdermabrasion is best done by a licensed medical professional. If done incorrectly it can lead to skin damage. Talk to your provider before  trying at home microdermabrasion or do it at your own risk! :)

Like with the acid peels, I did a lot of research prior to starting my treatments. I have been using the Personal Microdermabrasion tool (PMD). The treatments need to be spaced out by one week in order for the skin to have time to heal and rejuvenate.

I have been doing these treatments for about 6 weeks now. In the meantime I stopped doing the acid peels because again, the skin needs time to recover its outermost layer.

I have uneven skin texture on my chin and some scarring from acne. Now that I finally have the acne under control, I can finally focus on fixing the damage that its done. Anyone who knows me knows I love a good before & after picture, and I'm always excited to share!

Now this is still 6 weeks later but with makeup on.

I am going to continue the treatments once a week. My pores are smaller, my complexion is brighter, and my skin is smoother. As you can see my makeup looks a lot better too. I am hoping to continue to have results, and I will be sure to share! It's extremely important to moisturize the skin after treatments like this, try to avoid the sun for a couple of days, and wear SPF every single day.

Side note: The Personal Microdermabrasion uses aluminum oxide crystals. Newer technology used in most offices these days use diamonds, which have proven better results. There are at home options with the diamonds, but I go by reviews 100% and PMD had the best. Other side note: I am not getting paid for any of this!
